They work well, were relatively easy to install as long as you found the the line side of the 3 way switches. Unlike what some people have said, you cannot separate these switches in order to use in 2 different 3 way switch circuits. This is because there is a very clear master and slave relationship. The master has a line for the power, and the slave switch does not. Therefore it will not work without the master. Perhaps earlier versions of Kasa’s 3 way switches were not built this way, but this version is.That being said, when purchase on sale, they were still more economical than other solutions that I found.I have not personally integrated with Alexa as I don’t use it, but I know that it can be done. I have used the App however and it is very easy to setup and I am very happy with the built in feature set. I especially love the away mode that many apps don’t have. This allows for the randomization of on and offs during a specified time frame as opposed to always coming on at x time and off at y time when you are away, therefore advertising that you are not in the house.I am very happy with these switches and have recommended them to others. I have not installed close to 20 in my own house and have no complaints.

Did smart switches a decade ago and it was much more expensive and harder to setup, these were so cheap and so easy in comparison and I am so happy. Great quality and super easy to connect to the app. The only downside is you have to add them one by one, and firmware has to update one by one which makes it slow. Also it will connect to a switch and you have to run around looking at the LEDs to figure out which one the app decided to connect with (and it isn’t the closest first or anything). On the flipside though, you don’t have to run around pressing physical buttons to start the process – once they are powered they are ready to connect! highly recommended and will easily connect to your alexa or smartthings app.

The physical switch has a nice sensation, and response time is fast. Do note that the switch state changes when the switch moves back UP after being depressed, as opposed to when first depressed, so there’s a slight delay compared to dumb switches. Smart home integrations work well. The only issue with this switch is the physical size of the switch and the placement of terminals (on the side) means that when installed in a standard box, there is almost no clearance between the side of the box and the terminal screw. The distance is so small that current will VERY EASILY arc across the gap, especially when turning the switch on. I observed the arcing several times, you should wrap the device with electrical tape after installing terminals. I don’t consider this a proper solution as I’ve never had to do this with any dumb switch or with smart switches that are connected via wires or terminals on the back.

The TP-Link HS220 Smart Dimmer Switch has been a standout addition to my smart home, considering I use Hubitat central hub. Setting up and pairing this dimmer switch with Hubitat was a breeze. The switch responds promptly to commands, and its compatibility with Hubitat allows for seamless automation and customization. Whether adjusting the lighting for ambience or integrating it into broader smart home routines, the TP-Link HS220 plays well with Hubitat!

Over the years I’ve done my whole house with these, retiring other smart light controls. The app is nice and simple (a seriously low bar set by others). The integration with other systems is great too. I use these with Smart Things, Google Home, Alexa, Logitech, etc.The local dimming and other local features is what makes me love these. For the price, insane.I was skeptical about WIFI, thought it would be fragile compared to z-wave and zigbee but it’s been solid.I use TP link for my network switches too, I’ve come to like this company over the years.

I’ve given up on my idea of replacing my entire home’s switches with Lutron since Kasa is such a good value. The Kasa switches are reliable and the little circle glow they have in the dark is very sleek looking. This 3 way switch is great. Maybe it’s common sense to others but not me… but a single one of these switches can control a 3 way so you don’t have to replace both sides. I was able to replace the “main” side of the 3 way and it works perfectly.Smart Home integration is really good. It links up to pretty much every platform and I am able to run automations based on the on / off state of the light if I wanted to.

After reading reviews and comments I was concerned it would be an aggravating experience to install, this 3-way switch, but it wasn’t – it was actually a simple install. Watch a few youtube how to do its and you should get the idea if you need extra help. You only need 1 smart switch – it goes in place of the “dumb” switch that has the hot common wire (black in North America). The other dumb switch will have a black wire but it isn’t the main (hot) switch in the circuit. Youtube explains how to find the hot one. This purchase HS210 kit has 2 smart switches so you can do 2 separate 3-way circuits. So far it works like it should, so I’m satisfied. YMMV of course, but I’m left believing that the average Amazon customer probably doesn’t know a circuit from a circus.

The switch does what it should. Mine’s being managed through Google Home. The only difficulty I had is typical of all smart switches that I’ve used… They are significantly bigger than the switch it replaced, and can be a tight fit in the box.

Works great but needs either HomeKit or Matter support
We love how we can turn out the lights over our kitchen island without having to get up from our couch. We love the way the lights can be dimmed either from an app or from the switch itself. We love how there’s a small white ring-shaped LED on the switch that you can see when the lights are off. It disappears when you turn the lights on. It is a very dim, unobtrusive ring of light, but is plenty bright enough when the room is dark. The same light ring comes on in orange or green when you program the switch in the Kasa app. They were fairly easy to wire-up, install, and program. I’m a fairly competent DIYer, but I have a brother-in-law who’s an electrician, so that definitely helped my confidence level. The system isn’t perfect, though. It works with Alexa and some of the other “smart home” apps, but not Apple’s HomeKit. Granted, way more people use Alexa and other products, so there isn’t a real need for TP-Link to bring out the 3-way switch in the Apple format. However, there is a new standard “communication protocol” (not sure of that term) that has been rolling out called Matter. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Matter is a communication “standard” that all the MAJOR manufacturers of smart devices have adopted to allow these devices to talk to each other. The idea is, you can have an Apple TV 4K and use it to operate smart items that were originally only set up to use Alexa, or one of the other systems. I may not have all the “jargon” right, but I think I am communicating the general idea of Matter correctly.Kasa have just come out with new single-pole switches that use the Matter standard. I bought and installed two of them on some of our other kitchen lights. They were as easy to program as the 3-way switches I’m currently reviewing. Now I can use the Kasa app OR the Apple HomeKit app (and my friend Siri) to turn those lights on and off. I’m hoping TP-Link will come up with a way to convert these 3-way switches in the future, but I don’t know if it’s possible. I asked, but TP-Link have no comment about their plans (which makes me think they can’t or won’t be doing so).So 2 thumbs-up on the 3-way Kasa light switches. The reason I didn’t give a 5-star rating is because of the need for a neutral wire in the switch box and how big the bodies of the switches themselves are. I had to dig out the bundle of stiff, 27 year old, 12-gauge, solid wires, separate them, and reconnect the bundle of neutral wires with the neutral wire from the switch, using the biggest wire nut I’ve EVER seen. Then I had to do the same thing with the bundle of ground wires that were jammed in the back of the box too. The extra wires and bigger wire nuts made it very hard to get the switches into the box. Putting all that aside, I’m impressed by the switches and glad I did it.

Easy to work with, with caveats
The switches themselves are easy to work with. They have one terminal for either line or load, two for travelers, and a green and a white wire. What’s nice about that is that you need to change only one switch if you have a pair of three way switches, and it doesn’t matter which one.In my case, it was particularly helpful since I have a pair of switches in a two gang box, each controlling a different light. In one case, it’s connected to the power and two travelers. In the other case, it’s connected to a fixture and two travelers. I was able to replace them both in the same location, and leave the switches alone at the other ends of both pairs. With other brands, I’d either have to replace switches at both ends, or replace a single switch, but where the power comes in. That would have meant replacing one of the two switches in the box where I changed both, and changing one of two switches in a box at the other end. It’s awkward when the old switches don’t use a decora plate. The switches are easy enough to install and I didn’t need to look at instructions. I just followed the app, and as long as you know which wire is which, it’s not a big deal. But the instructions (found on line in the Amazon product listing) were needed for me to know what the two small switches at the bottom do. You won’t normally need to use them. The instruction manual implies that you need to change the switches at both ends for three way use, when the big advantage is that you don’t have to do that.Setting things up with Alexa was easy with the Alexa app. I just clicked on add, told it what I was adding, and that was about it.
